This Chop Pattern (which is a PMF pattern, that can be both spiral and diagonal) is a great way to train your brain and improve motor firing patterns in your upper extremity. The nice thing about the chop is you can do it anywhere. You can also accomplish it with many different tools such as dowels, medicine balls, maces, gada, or in this case - a modified hockey stick.
The dowel/hockey stick is a great place to start primarily because training with a stick will help strengthen the core and build strength in a three dimensional pattern in the upper body. This skill takes some practice to develop before adding tension or heavier weight. Be sure to perfect your form before moving on to strength. Take it slow.
